Along the same lines, the work of Carmen Joy Imes, “Bearing God’s Name” is an amazing book that opened my eyes to how that first commandment means so much more than a curse word or two.
Also, I’ve always loved how the Hebrew word often translated as hover in Genesis 1:2, as the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters at the very beginning of the creation story, actually means to vibrate.
You’ve tied these thoughts together quite well.
And…your website hosting has helped me tremendously…Thanks!
Thanks so much! I didn’t know that about the hebrew word meaning vibrate but definitely filing that little tidbit away! “The spirit of God vibrated over the quantum ocean…”
Interestingly, Sri Yogananda taught that the holy spirit was one in the same as the Hindu belief in the primordial AUM vibration from which all arises.
Yes, that vibration thought runs through so many different expressions spirituality. I’ve not yet gotten, but long for a Tibetan singing bowl in my studio. Peace!
What an expansive way to elaborate on the truths of the Kingdom of Heaven and insights into the creative work of our Heavenly Father and The Name Above All Names, Jesus, and our own true names! I love the images from our FASO artists you chose also. Your deep writing brought Revelation 3:12-13 to mind: "And I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." And Revelation 2:17 "And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it." Hallelujah! Thank you for using your God-given talents to create FASO and all that you do to inspire us artists.
This is well said. You may have grown up with the same idea I did, that "taking the Lord's name in vain" was to use God's name as a curse word. That is definitely offensive to Him, treating Him as much less than He is worth; but what He was telling Moses was that He had chosen this (Hebrew) nation of people for a very special and long-term purpose. He was putting His own name on them and He was warning them not to waste it. His name is Holy. There is no one --NO ONE--like Him.
And indeed, God brought about His perfect intent when, through the Jews, the remnant of people that came back from Babylonian captivity, God produced His own perfect Son --God AND man -- the One who existed in our flesh, yet without any sin, the One who was qualified to bring, to BE, the blood sacrifice of the perfect Lamb to wash away our sins and make us able to approach God again if we are in Christ.
Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach) is the crux of all time. The universal, eternal Law says that if you sin against God, you MUST die. Jesus died too, but He had not sinned. So, He won the power to bust that Law wide open. If we are in Jesus, we are given eternal Life too. The whole thing is so overwhelmingly beautiful and perfect, it brings me to humble worship at God's perfect Love and His great compassion for us, His children.
That is a spectacularly perfect piece you wrote! I did graduate from seminary. I am a priest. I serve Love and Wonder. MMMM! Mostly our God is too small. I am always glad when people can have the experience of discovering and resting in the Divine.
Not mind bending but mind expanding to be absorbed into the Whole. Finding the voice in Us that leads us to our path while here on this mortal coil and spiral away some day to be forever enjoined. Thank you , Clint.
Thank you for not pay walling-I have been reading and following you for a very long time wherever you were and began and as an 83 old still working artist from Texas, in Santa Fe for years now, I cannot even commit to six dollars a month and I have come to Value substack for presenting me with things ,(without all the commerce and clutter) I need to see and read – you are a wonderful writer…
Thank you for helping me see the commandment with fresh eyes. Plus, it's an encouragement to speak openly about the name of Jesus in an unexpected place.
So inspiring! Such a good reminder in the midst of stress and the anxiety of “everything going wrong’ . God’s will not mine is the way to true happiness. Thank you
Thank you for your post today. I love the thoughts put in all of them because I truly believe Christ is my guide as I work on each canvas. My son has created a new website for me so I am no longer in yours but you responded to me saying you would like to see more of my work and to please send it to you…I’ve just completed a 24 x 30 canvas of St Michael and would like to send it to you for your critique if that’s possible. Could you let me know how to send it to you ? Thank you for all the wonderful thoughts you share on your page
You have opened my eyes to a new way of seeing and understanding. Thank you!

Clintavo,
Perfect timing for me to come across this page!
Thank you,

PURE AND EASY--Pete Townsend
There once was a note
Pure and easy
Playin' so free, like a breath rippling by
The note is eternal
I hear it it sees me
Forever we blend
And forever we die
I listened and I heard
Music in a word
And words when you played your guitar
The noise that I was hearing was a million people cheering
And a child flew past me riding in a star
As people assemble
Civilization
Is trying to find a new way to die
But killing is really
Merely scene changer
All men are bored
With other men's lies
I listened and I heard
Music in a word
And words when you played your guitar
The noise I was hearing was a million people cheering
And a child flew past me riding in a star
Gas on the hillside
Oil in the teacup
Watch all the chords of life lose their joy
Distortion becomes somehow
Pure in its wildness
The note that began all
Can also destroy
We all know success
When we all find our own dreams
And our love is enough
To knock down any walls
And the future's been seen
As men try to realize
The simple secret of the note in us all
I listened and I heard
Music in a word
And words when you played your guitar
The noise I was hearing was a million people cheering
And a child flew past me riding in a star
There once was a note
Pure and easy
Playing so free, like a breath rippling by
There once was a note...
