We were magnetically pulled outside by the unseasonably cool weather combined with a bright happy sun. I was an electron, normally content to wallow in my own negativity, but a gang of protons had ridden into town and setup camp just outside. What was I to do but allow myself to be drawn toward the positive?
Today’s weather reminded me of the Monterrey Bay area without the fog. A storm blew through last night, and, much as an ice cream truck acts as a force of gravity bringing neighborhood children running in its wake, the lively thunderheads had coaxed the cool, dry, northern air to coat our town. For once the wind came from the north and not from the gulf.
I walked outside and inhaled the crisp, almost autumn-like air. Sunny-yet-cool days seem full of possibility, don’t they? One imagines setting out on an adventure and imaginary adventures are usually the enjoyable ones. Today felt exciting, invigorating. So unlike yesterday afternoon, when I had ventured out briefly in the late afternoon, only to be greeted by a wall of heat. The kind of heat that has weight, like an air curtain. On days like yesterday, the humidity and heat in the air work together to create a sensation of pressure against your skin, as if even nature herself is giving you a little shove back toward the door, whispering in your ear, "get back inside fool."
But if yesterday's nature was a commanding taskmaster, warning me to stay out of her way, today's was a young girl, happy with her ice cream cone. Light on her feet. Skipping and jumping and saying, what fun we can have on a day like today!
And so, we shut the door behind us, walked out into the sun, and turned to see what adventures, big or small today had in store.
