This is an interesting contrast to the writers and creators who say, when asked, when you get your inspiration and they say "every morning, when I sit at my desk." By which they mean that they just keep working and eventually some magic happens.

I agree, though, sometimes the day to day stuff must slide.

Ooh, good point! I might should have addressed this in the essay. Absolutely, one must have discipline and show up at their desk or easel every morning, even without inspiration, and do the work. That's what professionals do. But, in addition, if inspiration strikes outside of those hours......then it's best to capture it if possible. I'll often be laying in bed, or talking with my wife, or whatever and inspriation strikes and I'll run to the computer to jot it down. Often my "morning hours" involves cleaning up those drafts
